The Siddhagiri Matha is a place of historic importance when one looks at the rich and varied culture of Kolhapur. Located 10 km south of the city, the temple falls in Kaneri village and lies close to the famous Mahalaxmi Temple. The Matha has a rich legacy which dates back to the seventh century when the temple architecture was very basic and it served as a sanatorium for the sadhaks who came to meditate in the forests. In fact, the temple gets its name also from its location. Kad in Karnatak means dense forest and so the temple got its name Kadsiddheshwar Matha. Back then, some sadhaks stayed back while others went on propagating the message of the matha across the country. Today, the matha has more than 500 branches working round the clock to help people live better lives.
Currently, the temple and the Matha operate under the able guidance of Adrushya Kadsiddheshwar Swamiji who is the 49th head of the institution. In the various years since inception, the temple has achieved various milestones which have helped people improved their standards of living to quite an extent. From undertaking welfare projects to conducting educational seminars and doing a lot more, the temple has achieved a lot.
